Offline physical access control using NFC
Telcred is a research based startup company that develops solutions for next generation access control systems. These will allow NFC devices, including mobile phones, to be used for access control instead of, or in addition to, traditional keys and smart cards.
Managing physical keys and traditional smart cards is both inefficient and insecure. This is especially true in large organizations with many users who need temporary access to restricted areas. Users need to see an administrator to get a key or a card with proper access rights and then again to return it. This process can take considerable time and there is a high risk of keys and cards getting lost, stolen, copied or simply not returned. By instead using NFC devices for access control, these problems can be greatly reduced. Time-limited access rights are sent straight to the device, over the air or over the Internet, and there is no need to return anything.
